Responders play a critical role in containing and recovering from an animal disease outbreak by assessing the emergency, assisting in response efforts, coordinating resources, and assuring that all components of the response are carried out quickly and accurately to prevent further contamination.
Foreign Animal Disease Response Training provides the information needed to minimize the effects of this tragedy on your community. This course focuses on the best practices and safety issues associated with an agriculture emergency in livestock in the areas of quarantine, euthanasia and disposal, use of personal protective equipment, and cleaning and disinfection. This course also assists in increasing coordination of responders across jurisdictions and disciplines by examining the integration of response efforts.
 |
Master trainers who complete the course will educate training officers at the first response level. They, in turn, will train the "boots on the ground" in their local jurisdictions. The goal of the Ag Preparedness Center is to train approximately 300,000 first responders across America on their roles during a foreign animal disease outbreak.
Additionally, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has reviewed and endorsed the courses and determined that the materials are in compliance with existing National Animal Health Emergency Management System (NAHEMS) Guidelines.
